Final Thoughts

by admin | September 23, 2008 | In FTA Info No Comments

Its been a interesting journey.

Let me preface this letter by saying this, you may like me, you may hate me. I am past caring. I have a life, and I will not let FTA dictate it.

With that said, I have always cared what members thought. When I became a admin at FTA I had one goal, to make FTA better. Now, I know some of you will take that statement and twist it, but it is the truth. FTA has been a interesting, fun and at times painful experience, but when push comes to shove, it was good.

FTA allowed people from around America a chance to express their ideas about what television stations should look like and allowed them to run their fantasy station.

FTA was a novel concept and still packs potential. To the next generation of simulation creators, good luck. One of the main downfalls of FTA is time and ratings. To address time, since most of the user base is Middle-High school, each year users feel a time crunch at certain times, causing a slow down.

In regards to ratings, I was never against them. I have conducted many sweeps during my tenture of FTA. I just always felt that sometimes FTA needed more than just ratings to make it fun and exciting. Ratings, yes would boost moral, but the money would be useless, and many people still wouldn’t care.  Ten people voting with over 100 members is ridiculous. Lets be honest, ratings were always flawed. They have always been a popularity contest with the big names always winning and no room to grow or improve. Heck, look at KDDK my station. Even though I had nothing posted I still beat other peoples stations.

To the next generation of simulation creators, good luck with finding a solution.

On to syndication. I will be the first to admit it failed this time around. It was a disaster. Lots of hype with no one using it. Honestly, the real life syndication market has also expanded fixing a void which did once exist. When the original syndication was axed, it wasn’t because of overuse, creative issues, or any crap like that… it was because one person didn’t like it (that person wasn’t me btw)… From the time it left, I regularly received PM’s from various people wanting it back, this was not my “pet project” or the idea of one user. I understand, you don’t care. Fine.

FTA is dead. To be honest. FTA has ended. Fantasy TV America is overwith.
The torch has passed, and this interesting journey is now over.

If you wish to create a successor, go for it. There will always been a need for it, as creative people need an outlet. All I ask is you don’t use FTA’s trademarks (logo, name, etc)… heck, I will even be nice enough to forward the domain.

On to me. I know, most of you hate me, or at least like to express to your clique you hate me. Fine. Will I meet you in real life? No… With that said, please remember, I always did try to keep the best of FTA in mind.

While I may not have always agreed with you or you may not have agreed with me, I look at it now was water under the bridge. I apologize for all past incidents.

I spent my own money on FTA to ensure it was better. From moving it from yabbers to getting a domain. FTA’s site and forum required a good deal or server load because of its massive user base….

Let me share some stats:

Since launching our new site, FTA has logged over 500,000 pageviews with 46,000 visits from over 73 countries around the WORLD.

The average user spent over 20 minutes on the website at each visit.

Also, FTA is now one of the top rated sites in Google when you search for Fantasy TV

Looking back, FTA has been an interesting journey. One with ups, one with downs. All I ask is you please respect what was. FTA was started by ordinary people and turned into something great. While it may end now, all things must come to an end. All good things have to end.

“Death comes to all, but great achievements build a monument which shall endure until the sun grows cold.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

( I know, some of you will probably even mock the quote since it makes you feel BIG and special.)
